The Audio Service Is Not Running

I recently turned on my laptop to discover that the sound is no longer working. When I hover over the sound icon in the bottom right corner (by the clock), I get a message saying "The Audio Service is not running". I click on it, and it opens up the Windows Troubleshooter, and after a while it comes up saying "One or more audio service isn't running", and says it isn't fixed.

I have tried updating drivers, and restarting the computer, but it hasn't been solved.

I have also noticed that some other programs, such as the control panel, won't open up without freezing, and I have to restart the computer to get them to close down, which leads me to believe that this isn't just an issue with the sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If doing things as specified in the video didnot fix your problem and you have an error: "Error code 0x800706cc: The endpoint is a duplicate." then you must check this out. ->http://wintegrity.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/how-to-fix-sound-not-working-in-windows.html

You don't have to do the techie thing explained you may also just uninstall avg antivirus and reboot your system. WORKED FOR ME :).
