Hello everyone,

*DISCLAIMER* I'm a tad bit new to overclocking so don't yell at me, haha.

Anyways, i'm trying to overclock my i7 4770k to 4.5Ghz on my Asus z87. I have already achieved a solid and stable 4.2 overclock $ 1.250V but CANNOT and I mean CANNOT get to 4.5 Ghz. I have set my Dram voltage to 1.60000 and proceeded to increase my voltage in increments of .5 at first. After reaching 1.3 I managed to boot into windows successful. First thing I did was check the temps, usage, and attempted to use prime 95 for 24 hours. While running at 4.5Ghz @ 1.3v my idle was 38 - 42C. But when it came time to run Prime 95 BOOM insta crash. Afterwards I tried increasing my voltage by increments of .1. I was able to boot into windows at 1.28V but still had that crash. Any ideas for this noob?

Solution
Running my i7-4770k at 1.280 volts to get to 4.3Ghz.

It will run 4.5Ghz stable at 1.35 volts, but at 100C which is not acceptable. You might just be stuck around 4.2 and 4.3.

Unless you can cool it better or de-lid the CPU.

Have you tried at 4.4? Sounds like 4.5 stable may take 1.33 or so....may just have a 'not great' CPU....saw an article where about 70% of the 4770Ks could 4.5, might be in that lower 30%
