Hi,

I'm interested in having the option to switch my display from my monitor to my tv. I have my monitor attached via hdmi cable to my graphics card (GTX 660), but my motherboard (Gigabyte Z77X-D3H) also has an hdmi port, which I've connected to my tv. Unfortunately, Windows doesn't seem to recognize my tv as a display so I don't have the option of switching between the two easily. If I unplug my monitor and connect my tv directly to the graphics card, my tv works as a display. I went into my BIOS but couldn't figure out a way to enable the hdmi port on the motherboard. Is what I'm looking to do possible with the components I have?

I'd probably be looking at just using another port off the GTX 660 to connect to the HDTV; probably using some sort of adapter. If the graphics card has a DisplayPort as well as HDMI, the leave the HDMI port connected to the monitor and connect the TV to the graphics card using a Displayport to HDMI adapter.

Either that or run a DVI to HDMI cable from the card to the HDTV and run a separate audio cable.

As you've found out, it is up to the MB/BIOS designers as to whether they offer allowing the on-board video to be available at the same time a card is in the PCIe x16 slot. I have come across some boards that allow it and some that don't. Most don't.
