I have been all over the forums for hours, trying all suggested solutions to similar problems. Im hoping someone can help.

Ive just got a new TV and have connected the laptop up via HDMI however no sound is coming through.

The laptop has recognised and selected AMD HDMI Output as default but when I go to Control Panel - Sound - and right click AMD HDMI Output and select test I get "Failed to play test tone".

Ive ran sfc/scannow - didnt work.

Ive checked and updated all the drivers, no change. Im at a loss.

Rt click on the speaker symbol down in the bottom right, near the clock and select playback devices. Now select the HDMI device. If you cant tell which oneis the hdmi, try the various HD ones until you find it.

Thanks, I have been in these settings and the HDMI is selected as default device but I am still not getting any sound though.

Have a look at the image linked below if you can, I think there is something not right in the details to the right where it says that the max number of channels available is 0?

I had the same problem and I noticed when I was under sound devices that if the HDMI cable wasn't plugged in it showed my default sound device as my realtek sound card. If I connected the HDMI cable a icon for ATI HDMI came up and when I made it the default sound came out of my home theater system. The ATI icon popped up when connected but it wasn't the default and I had to change it. That is most defintiely the problem if your getting video but no sound. HDMI cables pass both sound and video through the same cable which is more effective then the old 3 color cables we used for cable and satelite TV.

I'm having exactly the same issue - have you managed to find a solution?
So far I've proved that the TV works with a different laptop and my laptop works with a diferent TV. I've also proved that the HDMI cables work fine with other systems.

You just have to change your default sound from the laptop's sound card to the HDMI connection.
