I was wondering if I could upgrade my processor from Intel® Core™ i5-3317U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.60 GHz) to Intel® Core™ i7-4790 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.00 GHz). I have a laptop so the fan cannot be upgraded easily but the main issue I am having is whether the fan can handle the heat, it would fit, and my computer will run fine after I install it. Here's a link of there spec. comparison

Thanks

Solution

1.It is not reccomended to replace the cpu on a laptop since the motherboard is specifically designed for that cpu and even if it works on paper, the cpu will most likely fail.

2. You cannot replace a laptop cpu with a desktop cpu. Th 4790 is a desktop cpu.

so dont do it, get a desktop...
