OS and MB question

so I was wondering that do I need to reinstall windows if I get a new MB, I'm upgrading from my old FM1 platform to FM3+, gonna get a fx6300... to replace my a6 3500... it's bottlenecking my r9 270x...

you are looking into an AM3+ board then. Thats a good upgrade. Windows 7 may not work on a new mobo, but windows 8 will.

You can try booting from a Windows DVD and attempting a repair, but more than likely, you're just going to have to re-install anyway.

I really don't wanna have to reinstall... and is windows 8.1 guaranteed to run after repairing ?

no guarantees, but the license key will remain valid..You just need an install medium like a USB with the windows 8 install image or a CD/DVD (iso file that needs to be burned). installation files are free and can be found online..the key is what is worth money.

As Beezy states, there's no guarantee a repair will work. All you can do is hope for the best and accept that a full re-install may be necessary.

I have the key and that is not the problem... I hate having to set everything all up again because I recently upgraded to windows 8.1... thanks anyways guys

A clean install is always the best bet when changing boards that aren't identical or at least similar.

yes, FM3+ is for bulldozer based FX chips while AM3+ is newer and better, it is for the piledriver based FX chips. PIledriver is stronger and more efficient than bulldozer.
