I have a buffalo external harddisk with 2.0 USB port.
Sometimes ago it connected to my laptop (Inspiron 1440, Core2Duo, Win8).
But when I try to connect the harddisk today, it wont let me.
It just showing a drive letter and not other option;
a. Disk management loading the virtual disk too long and crash,
b. Try to format option. Fail.
c. Try command prompt. Fail or loading too long and crash.
b. Try it with SATA cable to USB with separate power cable. the same with usb jab and enclosure.

Is it dying? Can I recovery the files or revive this disk if its dying?

Harddisk:
Buffalo mini station 2.0 USB and enclosure.
WD500BEVT, 500GB, WD Scorpion Blue.

Laptop:
Dell Inspiron 1440, T6500 2.1ghz, 4gb ram, 2.0 usb port, win8 pro 64-bit.

Sata Adaptor:
Cable Serial ATA
AC-DC Adaptor.5V-12V, 2.5A output.

Thank you.

Hey there trdesigner,

I would second @i7Baby's suggestion and also advise you to check the drive for any errors (both S.M.A.R.T. and bad sectors). A good tool to do that is WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic (I've put a link at the bottom). I'd do both the quick and the extended tests. Also, as @i7Baby suggested, you could also use chkdsk /r on the drive.
Some other things you could also do is to try it on a different computer or try plugging it in directly on the MOBO of a desktop (if you already got it out of the enclosure).

Keep us posted on how this is going,
