Is it worth getting the GTX 980 or go with the old 780 Ti. Im going to be running the 1440p asus swift. The 980 gets better performance and has higher clock speed, but the 780 Ti has more cuda cores and transistors that the higher resolution could benefit from. What do you recommended for my setup, plz help.
Money is not a problem, nor is energy efficiency.

980s retail for $549, and a 780 Ti still goes for closer to $600. It's faster AND cheaper, a rarity in the graphics card world. There's also a ton of room for overclocking. A 980 is basically the best single card solution now that they've dropped.

CUDA cores and transistors ONLY are relevant if you are comparison them from the same generation of GPU.

ACTUAL performance is what matters above arbitrary specifications.

The GTX980 is faster but more expensive, if price does not bother you, then get the GTX980.

You mean faster, cheaper, uses less power and runs cooler right? ;) The reference 980 is about 12% faster than the 780 Ti. And the 980 overclocks like a beast.

Edit: Ah you beat me to it. If you are looking to go high end get a 980. If you have a 780 or 780 Ti wait a few months for the real Maxwell GM 200 on the 20nm fab.

Edit 2: Just to quantify that the 970 and 980 are placed to replace GK 104 or the GTX 680/GTX 770. GM 200 will be the replacement for GK 110 or the GTX 780/780 Ti.

Noticed that the 980 4GB performs quite well with it's 256bit memory interface with resolutions and textures that make use of beyond 2GB, so who ever said that 256bit isn't enough just got proven otherwise by Nvidia.

Indeed. More importantly its got even faster memory (overclocks to 8Ghz apparently) to increase bandwith, and also has the power to use 4Gb.
