I'm having trouble fitting in the H100i in the 400r case with the Asus X99 Deluxe Mobo. I was wondering if anyone knew what the big white thing above the CPU was? It seems to be in the way. Should I buy a bigger case? Maybe the 500r? Please help. First time builder here.

are there any stock system fans in your case? If there is any, you could try removing one.
I had the same trouble with my cooler master nepton 280l and cooler master cm 690 III. But i took out one of the system fans and it fitted right in.

Hello,

Go for the 500r, it has more space above the motherboard. H100i will fit in the 400r only if you'll mount the radiator or the fans outside the case (the H100i has 27-mm thick radiator, which adds to the 25-mm thick fans).

Please post a picture with the white thingy, is it by any chance the stock CPU cooler?

EDIT: the white thing seems to be the CPU's VRM radiator.

Sadly I think I"m left with no other option than to go buy a bigger case. Once I add the power cables there's no room for the H100i. I think the 500r is even too small. I'm looking at a Corsair C70, Obsidian 750D , 450D (might be too small), and a 780T. It should fit in one of those but they don't have as nice of a look or features as the 400r sadly :(  What a bummer. I hate the oversized madness of some of these cases.

You will use the H100 in "pull" configuration, with the fans mounted above the case, but under the case top cover (with 2 x 140 mm silent fans to take out the heat from the radiator and some of the heat from motherboard).

You could also use the H100 in "push" configuration, with the fans keeping their actual position and the radiator above the case:
