Hi, I need some help. I changed my motherboard from a Gigabyte G1 Sniper M5 to an Asus Z97-A. All other hardware including the case are identical, except now in Battlefield 4 on the same settings I get anywhere from 30-60 fps depending on what's happening. Before I got consistently over 60 fps.

CPU is an Intel i5-4670k 3.4 GHz
GPU is an MSI GTX 760 2GB Twin Frozr OC
BF4 settings are 1600x1200, ultra preset

This PC is my first build but I don't see how the motherboard should make a difference.

If I can provide you with any more info please let me know.

Thanks.

Solution
Use HWMonitor to monitor Temp while gaming, CPU might be throttling due to overheating, and make sure the heatsink is tight and properly placed.
reapply thermal paste if needed.

I did check the temperatures after running BF4 for about 30 mins last night using OpenHardwareMonitor and the highest was 88C, which seemed a little high to me. Not sure what it used to be. Idle temps were mid-30s. Originally I was using the thermal paste from the stock cooler. This time I reapplied with Arctic Silver with a pea in the middle.

Also I tested the next most graphically intensive game installed, Saints Row IV and it ran on ultra at 60 fps or higher.

If my CPU was throttling, wouldn't FPS be ok at first, then drop?

Thanks hoax187, after checking the heatsink (stock Intel) it turns out I had a special moment with the pins and had them in the unlocked position thinking they were locked. I gave it a tug to see if it was secure and the damn thing came out!

All replaced properly with new thermal paste and BF4 and temperatures are back to normal.
