So, my mobo is an Asus z97-k and it has an older bios (can't remember the version) and I want to update to the latest one (2202) but I'm not sure how can I do that. I know that it can be done by using an USB stick. I've downloaded the bios file (which is a .CAP file) and renamed it with the software downloaded from the ASUS site. Now, the usb has to be empty ?? And after I copy it to the stick, I should be able to update the BIOS with the tool in the mobo UEFI, right ?? Can something go wrong ? Can someone tell me exactly how to update my BIOS ?

Unless there is a specific issue you're experiencing that the updated BIOS fixes, it's best not to update. The old adage applies here, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Yes you put it onto a USB stick and boot into the BIOS. you go to update BIOS in the options. Then find the file. The BIOS will check it is the right file and ask you if you want to update.

It should be straight forward but things can go wrong. If the file is corrupted, the usb stick pulled during the update or the board powered down before it is finished it can brick the motherboard. It is much easier than it used to be these days and I've never had one go wrong, but the risk does exist so be careful no to reboot it or pull anything out until its done and completely updated
