Thanks Novuake. What's the advantage of dual channel? I was thinking 1x8 would allow me to upgrade easier in the future if I wanted to.

Dual channel allows RAM to write to both chips at the same time.

Theoretically this doubles the memory bandwidth.

In practice it can improve performance by a good 10% or more depending on what you are doing.

I doubt you will ever need more than 8GB of RAM any time soon.

Are there any other items I need to consider - thermal paste, heat sink/s, cables? This is my first build.

Also, just googling how to install OS from a USB since I won't have DVD drive.

I might purchase an external DVD drive - will be easier to install the OS and any games I purchase on DVD.
