Going to upgrade my gfx card from 670 4gb to one of the above. On paper the 980 is the best but the 780ti has more Memory Bus, Memory Bandwidth, Texture Rate, Texture Mapping Units, Shader Processing Units and the 980 has stuff better than the 780ti as well ilike core clock and a boost clock. What really matters in these cards ?

More about : gtx 980 970 780ti

780 TI - Kepler architecture
980 - Maxwell architecture

Just because 980 doesn't have as much memory bus, bandwidth etc. It doesn't mean that it will perform worse. Maxwell CUDA cores perform better than Kepler CUDA cores by 40% I assume, that's why there are less cores 2080-2880? (800 difference I believe ). 780 TI has 2880 CUDA Kepler CUDA cores and 980 has 2080 Maxwell CUDA cores. Maxwell doesn't use as many CUDA cores, therefore there's less power usage. 980 is only 5% stronger than 780 TI, and it uses around 100W less than 780 TI. Personally, it's issue that is connected to money. If you'd like to save up some £££, then I suggest to get 780 TI only if you have PSU that is sufficient for 780 TI. If you want something such as 980 get it, but sooner or later there might be 980 TI which will be far superior and even I (2x 780 TI owner) will have to upgrade if games will become so demanding (or programs etc).

It's your choice really, CPU might bottleneck your 980 in SLI (if you'll have SLI) so I'd reseach it 1st.

I own 2x 780 TI and 4790K processor and it's not bottlenecking.

thanks for the reply mate i understand now, if the gtx 780ti drops in price and becomes cheaper than the 980 i would rather have a 780ti but like you said if i buy 980 they might bring out a 980ti more powerful. My cpu should be fine for sli i7 3770k and my power supply is overkill 1200w lol

780 TI's dropped in price, and it's your chance however, It's up to you in this case. You can get 780 TI for £385 right here: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-zotac-gtx-780-ti-ove...

I bought 2, and I'm not regretting it. You get a game for free as well.

980 TI might come out in 10 months (difference between 780 and 780 TI was exactly 10 months so I'm predicting here). It might take longer or shorter, but I think longer.

yeah 2 780ti would be the best option then mate when it comes to price my 670 the now holds up great with games but when i decide to get 2k monitor and that i dont think it will hold up lol

I'd wait until NVIDIA releases it's true flagship card that was like 780 TI when it came out. It was the best for 10 months, that's why I decided to buy it. Unfortunately 980 came out few days ago but I still think that 780 TI was worth the money. Differences are minimal and 780 in SLI beats 980. Therefore, I don't have to worry. If your rig can deal with stuff now, don't upgrade yet. Save up money and wait for true flagship. Also imagine... 780 TI in 3-way SLI or Quad-sli. Definitely possible now, prices went down.

The 980gtx is more powerful and cheeper than a 780ti....Nuff said. And as for SLI, yes other cards can be done this way..But the 980 is the ONLY card that has officially been announced as a TRUE 4 way configuration.

2 970's are roughly the same price of 1 780ti...With the 970's in SLI vs a single 780ti, tis no contest...970 wins easily.

Update....The sky has fallen..lol.....The price on the EVGA GeForce 780Ti Superclocked 3GB Video Card has plummeted to less than $500 per...With the price scaling of the 980's, it does give one time to pause and maybe rethink things?

780 TI costs less and less, and it's now 2nd best GPU on the planet (right behind 980). Therefore... If you'll look right, you can find new 780 TI for cheap. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-zotac-gtx-780-ti-ove...

True, but not a big fan of a Zoltec..Besides the version u listed is a tad bit slower than its EVGA counter part and it has 2 fans..

Not really. They're essentially the same cards. Same overclocking capabilities, and everything. 5 years warranty also included with amazing customer support and free game in addition. Just because it has 2 fans doesn't mean it's faster. Fans has got nothing to do with performance, since to overclock higher you need better cooling than air anyway. Also, this card clocks higher than it seems. It says it's 941 base, but when you run a game it's actually 1071. Overclock to 1090 and you got yourself 1200 boost.
