Can GPU be the reason for my PC constantly crashing?

So I started that new thread last night when my PC started crashing again thinking it's the GPU's fault, but I have no proof and it could as well be something else.

PC specs:
CPU - Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9550 (12M Cache, 2.83 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)
GPU - Asus Radeon HD 4850 (PCIe 2.0 ×16, 1GB)
MOB - Asus P5Q3
RAM - Patriot Memory 1600LL Series (2x2GB, DDR3)
PSU - OCZ 600SXS
System - Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit, Service Pack 1)

Here's what happens. I turn the PC on by pressing the power button, it starts loading Windows and before I can even log on to the system, it restarts itself - as if some invisible finger pressed the reset button - and it keeps restarting every couple of seconds and it won't stop unless I turn the power supply off. Like I said, once it happens, it keeps restarting over and over and over again. After switching off the extension cable (to which every plug is connected), I have to wait a couple of minutes (or a couple of hours) and when turned back on - it works just fine. So annoying!

Sometimes it happens when I'm already in Windows, sometimes before I can even see the Bios screen. In a word - randomly.

There are no BSODs, no errors, no viruses or malware software (according to Avast).

I had my RAM scanned and checked, as well as my HDD. Nothing seems to be wrong.

Perhaps my PSU is the reason or overheating of one of the components (I wish I knew how to check if temperatures are too high). Or it is really that GPU. I really don't know. Does anyone have any ideas?

It's your motherboard for sure. The symptoms you describe are exactly what happened to me and my GA-990FXA-UD3 back when I had an FX-8350.

Thankfully I had an Asus board laying around to fall back onto while I was waiting a month for Gigabyte to give me a new board.

I would recommend resetting your CMOS as I actually never tried that at the time because for some reason I never thought of it.

Hey, guess what. I have my answer.

PC kept restarting today to the point when the fan on GPU simply stopped working and two red lights on the actual card (never seen before) lit up. So I crawled under the desk to have a better look, examined the card, realized it must be either dead or not receiving any power from the PSU and then... the PSU literally exploded spitting a cloud of white smoke straight into my face! I had to open all the windows to let the smoke out and it stank like hell.

I'm guessing the short circuit from the PSU instantly killed my motherboard so it's PSU, GPU and MOB which I now have to buy. I might as well give up on this piece of junk and buy myself a new PC.

I took it to PC World only to hear they won't fix it since it's not one of those pre-built PCs but a custom one I had built myself. So it's either buying a few of the damaged components to go with the already a little outdated PC or simply buying a new PC.
