CPUZ says Dual channel on different ram timings

I have corsair vengeance 8gb 1600 cl 9 paired with a gskills ripjaws x 2gb 1866 cl9 and it shows in cpuz under chanel#tab its running in dual? they are not supposed to run in dual ryy?

cpu-a8 6600k
gpu- gtx 650 ti boost msi armor edition 1gb 192 bit gddr5
ram- corsair vengeance 8gb 1600 cl9
gskills ripjaws x 2gb 1866 cl9
mobo- gigabyte f2a58m-ds2
psu- powersystem 2 450watts true rated

your board only has 2 ram slots so when you put both sticks in it will run in dual channel mode. Your 8gb 1600mhz stick is also slowing the 2gb stick down to 1600mhz.

Even if you could get the ram to run in single channel mode you can run two different Mhz of ram.

What does freq show ? 800? if so that indicates both are running at 1600 which is prob best you can hope for, could try and OC them to 1866

so it does run on dual channel? like the dual channel 128 not 64 single channel?..
i could oc the 1600 corsair but it would run on cl 11 not like the gskill 1866 cl 9.
1600 cl9 is ok for me anyways. could play crysis 3 at 1050p high settings fxaa af x16. im not that much of a heavy gamer anyway.. thanks for the answer. :D

OCing will simply depend on what the sticks can run, they might be able to run at CL9 will prob take additional DRAM and MC voltage

You are running different brands, different sizes, different speed, different timing ram. The fact that they are even playing nice together is amazing. Considering they are playing nice at 1600 is still further amazing. Count yourself lucky and leave well enough alone. They work.

well it would really help if someone answer this in yes or no so "it does run on dual channel? like the dual channel 128 not 64 single channel?" cuz if they dont i'll just sell the gskills cuz i have them in 2pcs 4gb kit (2x2gb). thanks

If three sticks total 1 - 8GB and 2 - 2GB then you have 12GB total and of that some is running in dual and the rest in single channel mode (similar to Intels 'flex' mode - how much depends on how you have the sticks placed if you have the 8GB in slot 1 and the others in slots 3-4 then you have 8GB in dual and the odd 4 on the 8GB stick in single channel mode - if the 8 is in slot1 and you have the 2GB stick in 2-3 then you have 2 GB in channel B (slot 3 and 10GB in channel A (slots 1-2 so that would be 4GB in dual and 8GB in single channel mode

my mobo only has 2 slots i have the corsair vengeance 8gb 1600 mhz cl9 at slot 2 and the gskills ripjaws x 2gb 1866 cl9 at slot 1. i have an extra gskills ripjaws x 2g 1866 cl9 for backup. with that setup CPUZ says it is in dual channel mode w/c confuses me because they are totally different set of ram and dual channel seems impossible for the two.

all your sticks are dual channel capable. your mobo is dual channel capable. Being dual channel has nothing to do with what the ram speeds are or timings or brands. Its all about capability of the ram and motherboard. If it says its running dual channel, then it is. In this case, the memory controller has set all your ram to run at 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, dual channel. The MC won't run 1 stick at 1866 and the other at 1600, single or dual channel. It will run all memory at the same speed and timings, and since the MC is showing 2 sticks at 1600/9-9-9-24, it will run them dual channel, since they are dual channel capable. If either stick was only single channel capable, both sticks would run single channel

Then you have 4GB in dual and the odd 6GB on the 8GB stick in single channel mode, the MC (memory controller will run equal amounts from each channel in dual and anything extra in single, so with 2 in one channel only 2GB from the other will combine to run in dual

Sorry but you can't run 8GB in one channel and 2 GB in the other channel and have all at dual - it needs to be an equal amount in each channel, which is why Intel pioneered 'flex' mode and AMD has basically copied it, as explained above

Intel flex tech is what a mobo uses in order to run different ram. It'll take whatever it can and run it as best as it can. In your case this means 2Gb from the 8Gb stick + 2Gb from the 2Gb stick are running dual channel, the remaining 6Gb is in single channel. What you'll see is the 4Gb in dual channel has @10% better performance than the 6Gb single channel. Prior to flex mode invention, you'd have all 10Gb run in single channel. Since you have dual channel capable ram, dual channel capable mobo, flex tech will allow you to get the most out of your ram configuration

Yes, as I explained it earlier, the thing with AMDs version is that it's not as strong as the true Intel version due to AMD haveing weaker MCs (memory controllers)

even the cas latency was lowered from 9-9-24-41 for corsair default and 9-10-9-28-37 for gskills default it became 8-9-8-24-32 cpuz reading 1800 mhz nb frequency and 800 mhz dram frequency.
