So just to make sure we are on teh same page. You have antenna that is pluged into some device, that then has an ethernet cable that has internet on it (meaing when you plug the ethernet cable into a computer, it has internet).

If that is the case then you can get any generic type of router you want, it really comes down to features vs performance vs cost. You just cant use a dsl modem/router, the router has to have an ethernet jack WAN port (so 5 etherent jacks total).

Ok.... my router works fine but it cant find the modem. I have a 7-15 mbps internet service but my computer only gives me 2 mbps. If i hook a laptop to it I get 7-15 mbps I have tried new drivers, im not sure if I need a pcie card. I thought it might be the router and its problem not being able to connect to modem.

Ok your entire thread is full of confliciting information.
You ask about what kind of router your need, you have a router.
You say the router cant find the modem and that you dont have one, then you say you have a 7-15mbps intenret service which would require some kind of modem, and you say you get internet connection with no modem connection.

Lets start over.

Who do you have for your internet provider?

Is the antenna a satalite antenna, a cellular antenna, a wimax or other wireless antenna that connects directly to your ISP, or is it a WiFi antenna that connects to a another source that has a modem and router?

What router do you currently have?

How many computers do you have?

The computer with the issue, is it wired or wireless?

My service provider is mcsnet
it is exactly like a wimax radio
There is a one ethernet cable that comes into the house and has to be plugged into a wall plug and from there the adpter has a cable going into the router or directly into the computer. I have an asus desktop cm1745 running widows 8.1 and a laptop I just bought last week.
The router is an amped wireless R10000
There is no modem.
I have a fast connection on the laptop wired directly into the router
I have a slow connection on the desktop wired directly into the router, I have removed all antivirus and am using windows defender as protection. I have updated all network drivers.

If the PC has viruses on it, is very slow in general, or is set to a proxy server (either by you or viruses) or a VPN server then that would cause the slow internet connection.

If it is none of those things then we can try a few commands to reset the adapter so to speak.

Flush DNS:
go to command prompt and type:
ipconfig /flush dns
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log

Now reboot the desktop.

I have flushed the dns already.

is set to a proxy server (either by you or viruses) or a VPN server then that would cause the slow internet connection....I have no Idea what this means or how to change it. Do you know how? The computer is fairly quick . even with the slow internet. Here is something I found odd.
I used ookla speed test and repeated the test over and over. It went from 1.7 mbps first 2.1 second 2.5 third 2.7 fourth 2.9 fifth 3.2 sixth and so on each time I repeated the test. and each time the (rpm needle) would not fluctuate and instead hold exactly on that number eg. 2.5 mbps until the test was done. Like there was something stopping it from opening up, like a governer on an engine. and each time it would open it a little more. As soon as I closed the page the speed would go back down to 1.7. I dont know if that helps at all.

As far as VPN, if it is not listed under network adapters in Network and Sharing Center then you dont have an issue there

Proxy server, in IE go to tools, internet options, connections, lan settings, there should be an area for a proxy server, that should be unchecked.

One other thing it could be, but it is something that would have to be delibaralty set up, on the router under QoS you can limit a single computers bandwidth.

If there is no proxy or vpn setup then take the router out of the equation and hook your desktop directly to etherent from antenna. If it is still slow then it is likley an issue with the ethernet port.
One more thing to check, go to Network and Sharing Center, under connections where it says Local Area Connction, click that and tell me what it tells you for speed.

Contact your ISP about what router you can use, but the one you have is a regular router that means that any router should work. When you say slow connection, your internet speed tests are different on the two computer? Both wired to the router with a cable? Make sure you run the speed tests one at a time not at the same time, also check for a firmware update and try a different cable and port on the router.

Did you check with the ISP what speeds you should be getting? If you are getting the connection though wireless or sattelite it will likely be slow with a high ping time.

same issue when hooked up directly to ethernet. so I need a pcie card. speed is at 100mbps, as far as I can tell there is no vpn proxy is unchecked in ie

OK so I went and bought a new ethernet card and router, asus rt ac66u for my pc yesterday. hooked up just the card and viola i had fast internet.......This morning i check the the speed and Im good. I install the new router and do the set up. internet speed back to slow speeds???? I unhook and go direct into my computer, same thing??? 1.5mbps???? The motherboard has reprogrammed the card? I am at wits end here. Im about to take this pc to the dump and get a new one im so frustrated
