I am still in the lengthy process of building my new rig and I originally started with the GTX 770. But have since changed that to the 780. Now with the new 970 and 980 cards coming out should I consider one of them instead. Yhe 970 is about $200 cheaper than the 780 but it seems the 780 might be better in some areas. The 980 looks great but it is about $100 more than the 780 3gb. What do you guys think?

For 100 dollars more, you get at least 780 Ti speeds. What's not to like there?

970 is better than 780 in all areas.

if your budget allows, get the 980. I also like the factory look, and not to mention the benchmarks are so much higher.
if your trying to save, get the 970, the direct x 12 you will be glad, and you probably heard about how much power it saves you.

I couldn't find any comparisons. GPU boss only compares the specs and doesn't have any benchmarks on record yet. I might go with the 970 then if it can outperform the 780. But I also might go with the 980 if my budget allows it at the time.

The 970 is as fast and good as a stock 780Ti when overclocked, get a Gigabyte or Asus one.

Why not EVGA? I trust them and really like their "tweaking" software. I am getting the EVGA 1000w P2 PSU for this system. The PSU has great reviews as do their video cards, usually .

Is this something with the 970 in particular or something with the company?

EVGA cooling solution has issues. Just type it into google and you will find tons of stuff. Also, when I returned mine, it had a loud cricket sounding fan noise and this seems to be the case for many others as well. I got the ASUS STRIX to replace the SSC ACX 2.0. Look at reviews on Newegg and Amazon and you can see EVGA is not doing as hot. MSI and ASUS seem to be the ones to go for.

Wow, thanks! I also really like Asus, considering for this build I have the Rampage IV Black Edition MB, and an Asus DVD drive, plus the Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor is on my list.

Yeah I know I should get the Rampage V and go for the 2011 v3 procs. This build is a work in progress that should have been completed months ago but unexpected things happen. Right now I am hoping to at least have this built before Christmas this year......
