I have a HP p6777c graphics card and the program I am running suggests either a NVidia GeForce or an ATI Radeion with 512 mb or more dedicated memory. I currently have at ATI Radeon HD 4200 which is only 256? Can I do this upgrade?

Solution
Yes, you can - but to avoid problems, it is best to stick with an AMD / ATI video card (AMD bought out ATI a few years ago).

The product page for that computer is at:

Are you trying to play a game or just run a desktop program? Games like faster / higher end cards, but most desktop programs couldn't care less.

If you are not playing games, or are fine with low graphics settings on games, the Radeon R7 240 will work (and is very inexpensive at $64 before a $10 mail in rebate):

If you do want to play games at better settings on that system, it is much more difficult as the power supply on that computer would usually need to be replaced to do that (and the motherboard still could have a problem).
