I'm getting ready to upgrade my Graphics Cards to most likely 2 GTX 970s. I might get a single GTX 980 and then get a 2nd one a little later. But as of right now I'm more towards 2 970s. Anyways my question is, which cooler design will be best for my SLI setup? The reference blower style cooler or EVGAs ACX 2.0 cooler? I currently have a CM Haf 912 case but I am planning on getting a CM Storm Trooper with the window side panel, or getting the Corsair 750D. I like both cases and it just depends on which one will be better for me.

The cards will have a 1 slot gap between them for now. But I am planning on buying a internal capture card sometime soonish. And it will have sit in the slot between the cards. And idk if that will cause a problem with the ACX cooler. I also plan on getting a Corsair H105 for my CPU when I get the new case too.

I feel like the reference blower style will be the beat option for keeping them cooled and also help keeping everything else in my system cool too.

There is a good chance with third party cooling solutions for better overclocking potential with less throttling. However, ACX 2.0 is very fresh and it needs to be reviewed at length before giving conclusions. EVGA is about to roll out 900 series. Reviews from different sources would confirm the actual performance of the ACX 2.0 cooler.

They already have and it has great reviews already for what it offers. My only concern is since they dump heat into the case. And since I will have 2. That will cause them and everything else to run a lot hotter. Especially since my cases won't have positive pressure. And the fact that one of the cards will have a capture card block at least 1 of it's fans.

I can tell you one thing from my experience. I was using mid tower case and now I'm using Full tower case. In both case I've used EVGA GTX 780Ti SC (Yes, I'm EVGA fan boy). My mid tower has 5 fans and initially my full tower had 3 fans. No big difference.

ACX is loud under stress. It is for sure but from better overclocking perspective non-reference cooler will give you more potential for overclocking.

For better air flow you can mount more fans if your case permits.

Well with Storm Trooper I can have 2 120mms in front and 1 120mm on the bottom for intake. And 2 120mms on top and 1 120mm on back for exaust. Which the 2 on top will be part of the h105 radiator.

It is a good thing to have a side fan throwing fresh air on the graphics card but it is not necessarily required. What is required is the system of getting rid of heat being generated from the graphics card. Front mounted fans are good enough to throw fresh air on the cards.

Alright thanks. Like I said. My 3 main concerns is my case being able to keep the heat out of it that will be made by 2 ACX coolers. The fact that one of the cards will have a capture card blocking one of it's fans. And the fact that I am going to be using a H105 that it will be blowing hot air through it's rad. And causing thr CPU to run hotter.
