msi or gigabyte gtx 970?

Solution
None of them actually. EVGA or ASUS. My brand preference. But wait till you get to read the reviews on that. Btw EVGA GTX 970 review is available on Hexus.net and it is very impressive.

I don't see how anyone could recommend or think about Gigabyte after the atrocities they've committed. Locked voltages on cards, very poor quality lower-end motherboards, horrid BIOSes on some GPUs, overly-hot VRMs and power phases on a good number of motherboards, terrible BIOS interfaces on their mid-range motherboards, and the icing on the cake being the 1 month-long RMA time.

Frankly I don't see how they're still in business if they can't get their quality control right on any of their products.

Apologies I guess I got carried away. I'm at least hoping this generation of cards will improve on their quality control amongst all manufacturers; from what I've seen the number of DOA cards has risen from an average of 20% to around 45% in my opinion. Although I do believe it could be due to users hand oils seeping into the PCB as a lot of users do accidentally touch the bare PCB on the back and contaminate their card.

It seems that if you value silence you should go for Asus, if Power then for MSI.
I would advise against Gigabyte, as awesome as windforce cooling is it has a history of starting to be very laod for some users after a year or two. (myself included).
For people with older PSU's one advatage of Asus is that it has only one 8-pin connector, while all other cards have 2 (either 2x 6p or 8p+6P).

The Guru of 3D reviewed these graphics cards. Gigabyte won in performance and temperature, while MSI won in noise level and is cheaper in Newegg. Asus and EVGA were reviewed by TechPowerUp. Between Asus and EVGA, Asus wins in noise, power consumption, and is cheaper in Newegg as of this moment, while EVGA wins in performance.

Gigabyte make good cards too. I myself is in this situation. Youtube do have reviews on gigabyte 970 and it looked impressive. The use of materials and the looks actually won me over. Was actually considering EVGA or Asus but Gigabyte is currently leading the peck for me.

^Yeah funny how most only talk EVGA, ASUS, or MSI. Look at the Guru3D reviews on the Giga and MSI, then the TechPowerUp reviews on the EVGA and ASUS. Giga smacks them all on most everything, especially temps. It's 60c at load. The only one that comes close is the MSI at 68c. The ASUS is 71c and the EVGA 73c. It's also only 39 db at load, only the ASUS is quieter.

The Giga also OCs damn high even at stock volts. The Giga seems the one for me, I even feel they have the best support. It would be nice to know when it will be in stock and at what price though. I really don't need to upgrade right away though. I've only had my 7970 just under 2 yrs. I might wait until end of next yr to upgrade my CPU, MB, RAM, and GPU. By then I'll know a lot more about the new stuff coming out.

Yea. I do not deny EVGA, ASUS and MSI makes great cards too, but this 970 o woll go with Gigabyte. Adding on the illuminated Windforce makes it a home run for me.

I will not be worried about OC this card at all, the temp it can go on load is astonishing. Although the price for the Gigabyte one is higher, there must be some reason why its tt one higher then the rest.

@Frag Maniac

No, not able to. Was able to but didnt cos when it's available, i've yet to have in depth view of the gigabyte, evga and the asus one. However now i've made up my mind, it went out of stock everywhere.

Hope for a price drop too as and expect it to be $349 rather then $369.99.

I ranked the 970 in Gigabyte, Asus/MSI then EVGA personally.

Got he Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 gaming on Saturday.. it is great. Just make sure you have enough room in your case as it is the longest of the bunch at around 12.3 ish inches.. other than that it is simply immense, very quiet, can't hear it at idle and barely hear it under full load... mine has not gone over 65 degrees and the backplate and shroud are all black metal..The Gigabyte logo lights up and under the Geforce experience control panel you can change the brightness and add effects.Also it has the most connections out of the box... 3 display ports, 1 HDMI 2.0 and 2 DVI connectors.I am sure all the 970's are good except maybe the EVGA as I am hearing reports of a whine from the fans.

@eZkimoo,
Agree, want to get one but hoping for a price drop to at least $350.

@vMax,
Thanks for the heads up, and congrats! Sounds spot on regarding temp. Should be at about 65c in a case. Guru3D measured at 60c, but on an open bench platform with no air pooling. Was your temp with the side panel off or on though?

Keep in mind too that most sites use open bench platforms, including TechPowerUp, whom tested the EVGA 970 at 73c. That could easily mean 78c or higher in most cases. I don't want temps that high in my case.

BTW vMax, what case are you using? I'd also like to see a full side pic of all the gear inside and how it's setup. Also, when you get time could you shoot us a few bench results on some games?

Like eZkimoo and I are saying, hopefully it drops a bit in price. Don't expect $330 anytime soon though guys. This thing has an excellent triple fan cooler and a full backplate, and if the shroud is full metal too, that costs them more and should help dissipate heat too.

I was going to upgrade my X58 parts first, since I've had them a while and my 7970 less than two years, but this is tempting. I'm also not quite sure yet if I want to jump on a 4790k, or wait and see the Broadwells, because it or Skylake might support DDR4.

I wasn't counting on Broadwell supporting DDR4, because it's socket 1150. Rumor has it Skylake will be 1151, but not available till 2016 and the Q1 batches sound to be non k.

You don't want to buy EVGA this time around, unfortunately.

Thanks Frag. That was with the case window on with the Corsair Air 540 and Furmark blasting the G1. In Unique Valley benchmark, temps on the G1 never go above 59 degrees which is probably the temp it will be max at gaming until I overclock. at idle it sits around 28 Degrees. Ambient is around 22 degrees. Pic of full side view below:
