Asus Xonar D1 doesn't play DTS

Hey guys! I’ve got a problem and I hope you can help me solve it, it’s driving me crazy.

I have used a WDTV Live media player to play movie files (mkv and the likes). This worked perfect and my receiver never had any problems playing the audio. But I wanted to play games on my TV using my PC, so I decided to use my PC as a HTPC and stream movies (using XBMC or VLC) and games. I bought a new soundcard, an Asus Xonar D1 (which has Dolby Digital Live).

This works perfect, except for DTS tracks. My receiver (a Sony BDV-E300) doesn’t recognize the DTS track, and only plays Dolby Digital tracks. So if I watch a movie which has a DTS track, my receiver says it’s a Dolby Digital track and plays it accordingly.

I have no idea what could be wrong. When I was using the WDTV Live box my receiver played the DTS tracks without problem.

Hope you can help me out! :)

Yes, the card will pass-through the DTS, but only directly from a Blue-Ray or DVD disk. If you use MKV or other compressed formats, you either use a DTS-compatible card or a software which converts DTS to Dolby Digital (which I think your card is doing right now).

Really? I thought the card could just pass-through the DTS signal and the receiver would play it (or am I saying something really dumb? I have to admit I'm a noob with these things :D) I picked this card because it had DDLive, and I read that in order to play PC games with DD5.1 you needed DDLive.

I'm using XMBC.

So if I have, for instance, an ISO of a complete Blu-ray, will that work? And do you know a media player software which has DTS support? Will ffdshow work (which is a codec, but it has DTS support).

It should work; I have a Xonar DX and I had the same problem, not being DTS compatible. I used back then a Winamp plugin, an AC3 filter I think; for my DVDs however I didn't use DTS, but Dolby Digital 2.0/5.1, so I don't know what plugins to use for DTS; I will try as soon I will have some time to spare, you make me curious :) . By the way, I used ths S/PDIF optical as the output, you are using the same?

Can't get it to work. Tried ffdshow and cccp, but I only get Dolby Digital, no DTS. I'm using optical over S/PDIF.

I think the easiest solution would be to just buy a new soundcard. Probably the Soundblaster Z, since it has DDLive and DTS support.
