So some background info. A few days ago my monitor died wouldn't work on any computer in my house etc. So i got a monitor out of my garage that i used to use. I used a VGA-display port cord(monitor is VGA computer only had an open display port slot) The monitor freezes when I'm playing games go black for about .7-1.3 seconds then resumes like nothing happened. It happens every few seconds to every few minutes, sometimes even goes an hour+ without doing it. Occurring much more frequently now.

It has also been happening (much less often) when just surfing the internet etc. any help/tips would be appreciated. Just tell me what other info you need and I can give it to ya.

*note* never did this before switching monitors.

Just updated my drivers and that didn't help at all if anything made it worse.

First thing I would try is using another port on the PC. Is it a desktop? It must have more ports other than just a display port. Try using VGA or DVI. It the issue persists it might be a driver issue for the monitor itself. If it doesn't, then it might be your cables, connectors, or if you use any, adapters.

The next thing I would try is updating my graphics card driver. There has been countless times that basic issues have been resolved from updating my driver. Here is an auto detect tool for AMD that will find you the drivers you need: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

Monitor works on other computers just fine.

I already updated my graphics card drivers about 2 hours ago nothing happened. I am running two monitors I have a DVI slot a HDMI slot and a display port. the HDMI slot is being used by the second monitor. No monitor in this house uses a DVI. I had to buy a cable to go from VGA to display. Monitor is using the most recent drivers. Second monitor is working just fine also.

It has to be the cord im using to convert vga to display?

If the cable it a straight VGA to Display Port, then I would say it would have to either be the cable or the display port on your computer. If you have an adapter on your VGA cable for VGA-Display Port, it could be that, but less likely. Try using the monitor that is having problems alone without any other monitors plugged in. Plug the affected monitor directly into the VGA port on your PC (or if it has HDMI, try that). Basically try anything else other than the cable you're using now and see if the issue persists.

To further investigate, I would take the unaffected monitor, use the VGA to Display Port cable and plug the unaffected monitor into the Display Port on your PC and see if the issues occur on that monitor.

I am getting a display port link failure error basically saying resolution and/or refresh rate might be to high. Can display port not handle 1600x900 should i change it a little?
