Hi everyone.

I have a Macbook Pro and the hard drive crashed in it. I was barely able to recover personal documents but that's it. I installed a new hard drive and installed OS X. The original drive had iPhoto and Office 2008 pre-loaded from the factory on it, is there any way to get those applications back without paying for them?

Thanks for your help.

With not being able to get a license key from the orignal drive or from any documentaiton it came with there is nothing that can be done.

You can try talking to apple, but that is pretty much it.

If I have the original documentation/receipt/purchase information I could get those applications back?

I'd ask at an Apple store. Maybe someone there will sympathize and give you a copy of iPhoto for free.

As for Office, if you're fortunate and your workplace or school has a site license for Office, you can get a personal copy for $10 via their home use program.

On the plus side, welcome to the ranks of those of us who didn't have backups and lost important things in a hard drive crash. If you take the lesson to heart, it will never happen to you again because you will always have backups.

If your original documentation contians the license keys then yes that will help you.

If not then you can take those records to apple to see if they can do anything.

Hey Azguard4,

you can recover your lost data using data recovery tools but you can't recover pre loaded software from your Macbook.

you should have the original KEY on your recite or on the DVD. If you still have the original documents, just re-install the software and enter the key you got after the purchase.
