I'm upgrading my cpu soon and planning on going back to intel with the i7 4790k. I'm using an FX 8350 at the moment and I'm not really happy with it on some games that are really cpu dependent, I sometimes play BF4 but mostly stay on MMO's that are really single thread dependent which is an area AMD has been lacking in. Anyway, I was wondering what the performance difference is going to be, thanks!

The performance difference is huge when speaking of the single thread performance by far and the hyperthreading allows for way better multitasking as well. I had to OC my old 8350 to 4.7Ghz and didn't come close to the performance of the 4790K at stock. Now I have my 4790K OC'd to 4.7Ghz and its blazing fast.

I call bullshit on those benchmarks. Aside of the results not making any sense from game to game, it is sheer impossible that while an I7 4930k wins at 1440p, the amd does at 4k.
Together with teksyndicates fake one, this is the only benchmark where I see a fx 8350 coming close (or beating) a haswell/ivy-e I7.
Just think about it, the 4930k is about 1.3x as fast in single core performance and even a 4c/8t I7 3770k beats the 8350 fx in multi core performance.
However, for me personally it wouldn't be worth spending $280 on the I7 and $120 on a z97 board (=$400, not $700 as said above). But thats just because I'm not gaming all that much (aka, at all). I've heard about a few games where amd's perform horrible, so if you're not happy with your current performance, go ahead.

The 4790k is $400 by itself when it gets to you, where the hell are you shopping?

I'm pretty sure he's buying the i7-4790K at Microcenter, but not everyone has access to this store.

Micro centers are pretty well spread over the usa and as most people here appear to be american, I assumed the OP was too.
Other than that, it goes for $319 including taxes/shipping at amazon. In germany, it went for 250€ a week ago.
I'm unsure where you are looking, but your search methods appear to be highly inefficient. And even if it was $400 (which is over intels suggestion, lol), a motherboard still wouldn't even get close to costing $300 until you're truly after highest performance available, in which case, you wouldn't be looking at mainstream z97, but on x99 anyway.
Good motherboards in the z97 line are $100-120. After that, you don't see increase in features, just minimal performance or overclocking gains that no normal pc user would ever notice. No sane person gets his i7 to 5+ ghz for everyday use.

To sum it up, you posted a fairly bullshit benchmark (either faked or inappropiate results, there is no way those would really happen) and claimed $700 cost for a z97 board and an i7 4790k. Together with $400 as cheapest you can find, which would still leave $300 for a motherboard. Okay, you'll probably be telling me that the cheapest z97 board you can find is $250.
Now to my question, what are you doing here? Trolling?

Seriously dude? I found that post on a respected tweaking website, I didn't make it, I didn't endorse it, i just said; huh.. moving on #1 getting a cheap z97 is just stupid (remember m.2 and pcie lanes, sharing 16, REALLY?). #2 I'm canadian, so bear the exchange rates plus 13% taxes, u want my lowest prices? fine, here, I'll give u options cuz I don't know what u can see thru ur orwellian screen:
4790k:

Sabertooths are 190-200 to start, 260 for the mark 1. I'm drunk and may be mixing platforms. So?
do some math, there's a calculator in accessories.
think I'm padding? google pc partpicker canada. Don't accuse me of bullshit. I hate the internet cuz all I can punch is my screen. And I'm running out of monitors.

You may forget that 1 USD = 1.15 CAD and that prices in the US are generally lower.
And an sabertooth is a high end board. Featuring tons of stuff no normal user does even know about and in the best case giving you a 5% performance boost over: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97... for $80.

Is the exchange rate really that bad now? I know things are always cheaper in the states, but that's just salt in the wound. Anyways, how many normal users go for a 4790k unless they plan to shred the 8350 and/or want future proofing from hyperthreading over the 4690k? Then there's M.2 plus m.2 x2, and x4 and pcie ssds, all between 10Gb/s and 32Gb/s (claimed by manufacturer not me). I would assume they're going for a lasting quality build, nerds can be paid to pimp ur system settings if ur too lazy to learn, I do it for free cuz I'm nice - and I wouldn't put in the time for people i wouldnt do it for free for.
sabertooth Rev2 is an "upper middle class" of board, sub $200, remember hero, mark 1, the extreme? And oh so many more. Look at jdcranke07's board (first response to thread): Formula Z. We're not building gramma's skype rig here.
Ur board ins't awful at a glance (who knows the truth of it, get what u pay for tends to be true) but it has ONE pcie slot? I'm not counting the 2 x1 slots. so now i gotta buy an new premium priced GPU instead of second linkable market flooded highly discounted mining card- which then makes my guess work price crazy low? And it get's to share lanes with any ssd's that use them. No Ramdisk either. Why? And I noticed u still used the US site. $110 starting for me.
hold on, ur giving me a hard time over a half blind estimate of what I intend to build that is like +/- $50, just because I told a guy to unpark some cores to see of it helped him before whipping out his credit card????

No, as I stated before my suggestion is trying to tweak and get along with the 8350fx rather than spending so much to get the i7.
My posts were directed at the $700 claim, which is simply put at least $250 too much.
The board I posted was just to illustrate the very, very small performance gains. If you want a board with good overclocking and dual card support, http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-fatal1t...
For more features and better memory performance:

Oh, I see. So you diss the hell out of the 8350, then say u hear it's bad at some games, then claim to have no experience with gaming, and offer advice anyways. Well the no clue about gaming I believe.
I've also come to believe that it is you, in fact, who resides under a bridge.
For future reference, in your comments about amd cpu gaming, try to remember that I can run every game that's come out so far (literally: to date) on high to ultra with a PHENOM II 965. That's a 4 core AMD. Fairly inferior to the newer 8350. How's that lemon taste? Not quite like goats EH?

Unparking all my cores (only got 4 - Phenom II 965@3.9) more than doubled my fps, like from seeing them in the 30s/40s to 90s/100s and higher if I wasn't in the middle of a 500 player battle. Yes, max graphics. It eliminated stuttering, on my end anyway. With the 8350, it's a hot beast, ur not supposed to unlock them all, I wouldn't, shit might melt or burn lol - and ur supposed to alternate which are locked and unlocked every now and then, especially if ur overclocked real high. No harm in trying, lemme know if u can't find out how to do it on the interwebnutz, but there's lots of info, especially in the planet side 2 forums for example.

Great, I could also run most games on my q6600@3ghz. Fairly equal to the 955 at stock.
Nevertheless did I see an absurd improvement by switching to a 4790k.
You seem to be just making up stuff now, running out of (false) arguments?

Yes I am making up your clearly visible posts, and I'm have no false ways left to say you don't know shit about how to push an AMD chip as u don't seem to have had one. Let me guess, ur one of those ppl that leaves their car in the same auto OD gear all the time whilst moving forward, I'll take a leap and say you've found reverse.
Guess what, so have I. I reverse ever bothering with u.
