Hello everyone!

I will try to be as fast as possible since these issues bothers me for the past 3-4 months.I have been saving money and slowly upgraded my cpu/psu/ram/mobo from the older pc that I had but my graphics card was left to be upgraded last.Not that much after I upgraded the other parts, my graphics card started heating up,I changed the thermal paste from the gpu but I saw no changes.Now my pc boots up with a couple of noises but I see no signal from the screen so I guess the card is gone for good and I have to speed up my new graphics card purchase...

I already have a 7 years old Gigabyte 8600 gt without a fan,just a heatsink pipe..

Of course as you understand after that sudden death I am in a tight budget but I am between these 3:

Asus R9 280 http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9280DC2T3GD5/specifications/
Asus R9 270X http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9270XDC2T2GD5/specifications/
Asus R9 270 http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9270XDC2T2GD5/specifications/

Since Asus,Gigabyte and Sapphire are the most cheap in my country I am aiming towards these three brands mainly. While R9 280 is my main aim above all those I recently realised that it might not fit in my case and the whole thread is about this.Will any of these 3 cards fit in a Thermaltake Armor Jr http://support.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1433&ID=1440 ? My main aim is to chose size/money/performance wisely since I don't want to be buying a new case at this moment as I am already pushing my budget to buy 1 of those 3. I can't settle for any r7s heh :p

Here below is a picture taken of my pc's interior focusing at the PCI Express slots (old card removed):

Here comes the problem,the distances in this picture are:
A->B 1.5cm
A->C 27.5cm
C->D 1.5cm
A->D 29cm

I know for sure that the R9 270 is going to fit in there since in Asus' site it's 9.2 inches ~ 23cm so I know I at least can get the R9 270.But how about the other 2?
R9 270x is 10.7 inches ~27.2cm
R9 280 is 11.2 inches ~ 28.4cm

Even if they fit wouldn't that be too close to the front panel and that could cause increased heating?

I am sorry for the lengh of the post,any advice is welcome...

Solution
I would just measure from the inside of the back of the computer where the video outputs go to the hard drive cage. That will tell you how much room you have with the cage. You could remove the cage if you had to I think and then it would definitely fit.

those A->C and A->D lengths that I wrote in the first post are my actual lengths from the inside of the back of the computer to the hard drive cage.

If you see the photo you'll understand the dimensions.. My results in summary show that R9 270 will fit in my case, R9 270X is slightly larger but will fit (worst case scenario 3" from the HDD cage as free space~ideal free space?) and R9 280 might fit or might not..Here's where I need your opinion mainly..About R9 280.. Should I risk and buy it? How hard/possible would it be to remove the HDD cage at the worst case scenario?

It should just be a few screws to take out the HDD cage. I would buy it from a good company like newegg.com where you can grantee to be able to return it and get your money back if it doesn't fit. I personally buy everything from newegg because of their great return policy and excellent shipping. I honestly can't say enough good things about newegg.

As far as having room from the HDD cage doesn't matter. The card will go in what looks like upside down. So the fans will blow down towards the bottom of the case. And it will they can only go in a few different slots on your motherboard, depending on which board you have, maybe only one PCI X 16 slot. So how far from the cage it is is irrelevant.

Does that make sense?

I actually live in Greece so the shipment should add more in the total price,but it's alright..

I think I found the solution in my Thermaltake site I posted above, there is that manual for Armor Jr and I downloaded it. It shows exactly how to dessassemble the HDD cage and since I have only 1 HDD there for now I can make some more room without beeing anxious if R9 280 would fit..(I may now even be able to look into that WINDFORCE from Gigabyte with the 3 fans heh).

Anyway long story short, this thread, consider it closed and case solved :)

Good luck with your video card bud, and happy gaming!
