will a gtx 970 bottleneck a fx 6300

Solution
I think it would be better to go with an i5...or at least an 8320. You will be able to get about a 4.5GHz overclock with a hyper 212 Evo on the 6300.

Now I have a 6350 overclocked to 4.7GHz with a 7970 (280x), and it doesn't get close to bottlenecking in games like BF4 and Watchdogs. So I don't think it would bottleneck, however it would be more sensible to go with the i5 or 8350 in my opinion.

Man AMD has this bottleneck problem and they are generally weak CPUs . no matter how many cores they have . they are slow and hot and ... if you gonna go for such monster VGA then im suggesting you to go for Powerful Cpu . you really gonna need it because you wanna see what GTX 980 really can do with your games .

so first of all . go for Intel . look i5 is pretty enough for gaming and i7 will make no difference ( 2-3 FPS ) maybe . either wait for Intel's 5Th gen to be more future proof or go with 4th generation i5 . and if your not overclocking then dont go with K cpu .

by the way . AMD 390x will come out too and will be water cooled and might be able to beat GTX 980 . so i suggest you to hold and wait . then you gonna get strong 5th GEN intel cpu and it will keep you safe for very long time . and you gonna grab a VGA card that will run your games at great quality and performance for many years . how about that :D

My FX-6300 @ 4.5 Ghz would mildly bottleneck a GTX 770 4GB. The i5-4690k I replaced it with lifted that bottleneck at its stock speed. I can imagine how much more so with the GTX 970. An FX-6300 really shouldn't be paired with anything more powerful than a GTX 760 or R9 280 or 280X.

Absolutely no need to upgrade your CPU for the GTX 970. Just overclock your 6300. The cost/performance ratio to upgrade to a 83xx or jump over to Intel is not worth it, unless money is of no concern. If you can get that 6300 to 4.5ghz (which you likely can) then you will be very happy.

there would be a measurable fps loss compared to much higher tier cpus... but the difference would be negligible. you still would get very high quality 1440p gaming out of the rig, obviously near the max possible experience at 1080p. like others said, overclock that fx6300, its fairly simple. that said, depending on your gaming, especially if your happy at 1080p, you might be just as happy with a gtx760 or r9-285, their prices should be coming in right at $200 soon enough with the gm204s pricing. that would still be a solid 1080p gaming rig for a couple years and by then we should have a new amd carrizo, intels skylake, nvidia pascal and amd maui gpus, and affordable 4k monitors.

lol amd is good for single gpu, amd is bad for SLi/crossfire. or dependent CPU games = 2-4 games.

Games next gen 2014+ use 4/6/8 cores, not 2. (dependent cpu games use 1 or 2 cpus)

You Dont Need Upgrade CPU, LOL trolls Intel fanboys! XD yes Intel is better, but amd fx is good too.
