Hello everybody,

On Tuesday, 9/16, I and a more experienced friend built the following rig -

MOBO - Asus Maximus VII Hero
CPU - Intel i7 4790k
RAM - GSkill Trident X 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 @ 2400
GPU - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760
SSD - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
HDD - Western Digital 1TB
PSU - SeaSonic M12II 620W
COOL - Corsair H100i

We had it running for about an hour and a half, enough time to install Windows 7, check temperatures (30 degrees celsius the entire time), and for me to begin installing all the things I needed (Google Chrome, Steam, games, etc.)

I was troubleshooting some audio problems when everything failed. I have a SteelSeries Siberia V2 Headset, which is non-USB. It works perfectly fine on my other computer, however, on my new rig it was not picking up sound. Another headset - one which does use USB - picked up sound just fine. We were installing audio drivers to try to correct this when the system suddenly shut off and refused to boot back up.

Pressing the power button did nothing. Pressing the start button or reset button on the motherboard did nothing. No fans would move, no beep would sound. The lights on the motherboard remained on, but that was it.

We checked all the power cables and resecured them. We reseated the GPU and the RAM. We reseated the entire motherboard. None of that worked.

Last night I went out and bought a new PSU, a Corsair CX750M (that's 750w instead of the original 620). That did nothing except cause one fan to twitch and the nothing.

We even "breadboarded" it with JUST the motherboard, CPU, PSU and a spare fan on a safe surface. Still nothing.

So we took it all apart and I'm shipping the motherboard back to Newegg. I ordered a new one off Amazon so that with Prime it should be here on 9/23.

After doing so, we checked the CPU for any damage (there was none that we could tell) and I checked the motherboard for any bent pins. Everything looks perfectly fine.

I don't know what I'm asking except some sort of confirmation that it sounds like the motherboard died on me. My friends keep telling me that if it was the CPU, it would have never booted to begin with. If it was the RAM, it would have still turned on and given me an error. I'm worried that the new motherboard will arrive Tuesday and I still won't have a working computer. What do you guys think?
