If I connect my PCI express graphics card to my PC, it will not resume from suspend mode. Instead, while attempting to resume, it will immediately power off, then a couple of seconds later, power on again, power off again and repeat ad-infinitum until I either hit the reset switch or pull the plug.

If the graphics card is disconnected, suspend / resume works fine.

These are the components:
Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4
PSU: Corsair RM650 650W (this was a replacement for a faulty HX650W)
CPU: Intel i5 2500K
RAM: 4x4GB Corsair 1333MHz DDR3
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6850
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

Thanks for any help.

It is probably a sleep state issue. Your best bet is to change the sleep state settings in the BIOS. For the ASRock Z77 Extreme4, go the the BIOS - select Advanced - go to the South Bridge Configuration - then switch the Deep Sleep entry to Disabled or Off.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have access to the PC, but when I do I'll try that.

If it really depends if its an actual bios setting that made your computer nonresponsive after sleep. In all my experiences with the same exact problem you have with no display, this is mostly due to windows OS itself having extremely buggy scripting for their sleep mode. Even for me when i set to turn display off after 1 hour, sometimes the screen does not turn.

Your problem is mostly a windows dumb problem not your bios. So I would recommend just turning off sleep mode and just hibernate. Or just turn the monitor off since AMD catalyst can detect if the display is on or off and it has its own power saving features.

I have had this exact problem from day one. My builds is an ASUS Deluxe, 2600K oc @4400mhz, 2 Crossfire His 6850 iceqx.
My computer would wake from sleep but my monitor wouldn't. I could sometimes get a display if I turned the 19" Samsung Syncmaster monitor's input on and off, but it is real frustrating to do that. So after finding no joy on countless forums, I settled for not having my computer sleep.

So long story short, I was making room for my new rig and found an old vga cord and decided to plug it in to my 20" tv using the dvi - rgb adaptor.
I tried to plug it into my unused 6850 card(lower on my old rig). It wouldn't go into the card's lower DVI port(later found out this is the single link DVI port) its the one with a single slot next to the 3x9 pins. So I plugged it into the Dual-link port, has a center cross with single pinholes in each of the crosses quadrants. It fit so I set my sleep timer to 1 min and for the 1st time in 4 yrs my computer and display woke up from sleep!

I plugged in my Samsung into the upper card's Dual-link port and it also woke up from sleep! If you look at the DVI end of the cord it looks like the layout of the sinlge-link port, so thats how I always did it, my HIS manual didn't have the back of the card port layout. And I don't recall any forum ever mentioning that.

Try this and let me know, because I will not be using this computer anymore, but might help other users that still have this card.
