I have a problem with the stock cooler that came with the cpu, and i won't be able to switch it out anytime soon.. the problem is that when idle the cpu fan speed goes around 2.7k~3.5k rpm! which is crazy. aswell as if i play a game like cs go for like 5 minutes it ramps up all the way upto 4k~5k and it's loud as balls! I bought this cpu with a gigabyte 970a UD3P, i know the stock cooler should work fine since my friend uses it and it isn't loud at all, but he has a different motherboard then me so I think thats the problem. Any ways i tried fixing it by using speed fan but even if i set it to never go above 2k, it sometimes randomly ramps up all the way upto 5k then goes back down which is odd. can anyone help me ?

Are you overclocking the CPU - or using factory specs?

I built a FX-8320 about a month ago - I know the cooler was a big of a problem to get seated properly and locked down. Also - is the CPU fan plugged in the proper plug?

I didn't look closely to see if other fan plugs are on the mobo (both of my mobos have 3 fan connectors). It isn't overheating much - so contact may not be the issue....I would contact Gigabyte technical support for either an RMA or possibly a BIOS update or other fix they know about (I Googled your mobo and didn't find any common problems with CPU fan speeds).

You don't have to give up here - there are a lot of experts here....and maybe one of them has had the experience with your mobo....

It is possible that it is the fan....Gigabyte support is going to have a lot more experience dealing with the specific issues - especially on your mobo....it may be as simple as a BIOS update that fixes the problem....it could be mobo or the CPU fan.
