Hello all tomshardware users... i recently have been posting some threads about a new pc that i may be building and i realized that i dont know that much about anything really... so im going to ask for your help from SCRATCH. I want to build a $3000 gaming pc that can run every game out today on max settings at 4k that costs $3000 with a 4k monitor included in that budget and as many ROG/ASUS brand parts as possible (sorry, im a fanboy). SO, tomshardware, I CHALLENGE YOU!

All jokes aside im open to all suggestions and a huge thanks to all who help me here :)

The 295x2 is definitely a downgrade from the 980 SLI solution. Nvidia has better drivers, SIGNIFICANTLY lower power usage, all the while providing more performance than AMD. The 980 just debuted, there are tons of reviews that just came out, I would suggest looking at them and seeing for yourself how insane this card is.

Plus on the 295x2 it has built in watercooling and its a single card so i think that may be better for me unless the performance difference is substantial

Ok thanks! So the SLI 980's should be able to handle all games on 4k at high/max settings with no problem???

They should. I'm not too sure about max settings. I don't think any setup besides 3 or 4-way SLI could handle maxed out games at 4K. At 4K you don't need any AA whatsoever though. There aren't many benchmarks out yet so I can't give you a definite answer.
