I have a asus z97-a motherboard and im trying to put togeather my new pc. I have a old cd rom that i would like to use which uses atapi/ide bigger cables. I dont see that on my motherboard so what can i do ? Can i use a external cd rom that goes through usb to boot up or no.. thank you guys

You probably can find a add in ide controller card.
But, a sata dvd drive will be <$20 so that is the best way to go.
Yes, on modern motherboards, a usb attached dvd drive can be used to boot and do windows installs.
