So I'm planning to get the GTX 970 for my next build. The problem is that the 970 has HDMI 2.0 and my monitor (ASUS VX238H) only has 2 HDMI (i think it's 1.4) and a VGA. I don't want to spend a few $100 more for a monitor. So my question is, will the HDMI 2.0 on the 970 will be "backwards compatible" with my monitor which has a HDMI 1.4? Any answer will be appreciated. :)

Will I need a new cable?
NO! Well, probably not. Here is the exact quote from HDMI.org: "Version 2.0 of the HDMI Specification does not define new cables or new connectors. Current High Speed cables (category 2 cables) are capable of carrying the increased bandwidth." Emphasis mine. Here's another direct quote: "HDMI 2.0, which is backwards-compatible with earlier versions of the HDMI specifications..."

Can existing HDMI cables support the higher bandwidths of HDMI 2.0 Specification?
Yes, existing High Speed HDMI Cables (wire only) will support the new higher bandwidths (up to 18Gbps).

yes, HDMI 2.0 is fully compactible with previous standard HDMi 1.4b.
actully HDMI 2.0 is made on top of HDMI 1.4 so go ahead and buy your GTX970.
