Hi guys,

Just in the last day my CPU's temperatures jumped from a normal range (30-50C while idle) to hovering around 80 while idle. Now my computer was already overheating while I did graphically intensive things like play videogames but now I'm not doing anything but websurfing and its shutting off. I opened up the case and cleaned the dust off the fan but there has been little difference. anyone got any tips?

Info: AMD FX-8320 Eight-Core (Vishera) with stock fan

Due to the power consumption of the CPU, it will run hot. I suggest that you :
1)make sure airflow is good in your case(get rid of dust)
2) reseat the CPU and cooler, making sure that you get a nice, even spread of thermal paste.
3) if the above doesn't work, I'd invest in a new cooler, as the stock one is never very good. With an aftermarket cooler, you would also have potential for an overclock if you wanted to in the future. A good water cooler, or an air cooler such as the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo should sort your problem

Speedfan can't read the RPM of the stock fan (any suggestions for another program?) and after doing some more cleaning the temp is bumping around between 60-70 while idle. I guess I'll have to get the upgrade. But the computer isn't even 4 months old! *grumble*

edit: If I do upgrade do I have to worry about things like clearance and how much space in the case for the cooler?
