Solution
The age of that motherboard is a problem. It does not like high density memory and only supports 1.5 volts.

There is a compatibility list from the manufacturer at:

http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/motherboard_memory_ga-ep45t-ud3r.pdf

Crucial has an upgrade picker to find compatible memory and storage for computers that also handles your board at:

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-memory-for/Giga-Byte/ga-ep45t-ud3r-(rev*-1*0)

They show as having 2GB modules that they guarantee will work for $31 each or $62 in a two module kit. I would recommend getting one or two kits and it should work with no problems.
