Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I was hoping to catch the eye of the GPU/hardware experts rather than put it in the gaming section.
At present I am only gaming at 1080P with my machine on a single 27 inch monitor. I have no intention of ever playing on 3 screens or on a 3D monitor. I play games like Deus Ex, Crysis 3, Assassins creed, and I will be buying Elite dangerous etc etc in future. I tend to like playing these games at the maximum possible settings even if it means taking a modest frame rate hit.
Now as I understand it, the Rift basically runs two smaller screens which are 3D but at a lower resolution than what a 1080P monitor natively runs. My question then is, will I be able to run all my present games (assuming they support the rift or get equipped to do so via updates) at the same quality presets and with similar frame rates or will I need a more potent GPU or even two GPUs to do this with any sensible frame rates or settings? Is the rift going to double the workload on your graphics card?
If so, can we have a minor discussion about which cards would be best to adopt going forward with this end use in mind?
My rig
Window 7 64bit
intel i7 3820
Sabertooth X79 mobo
16GB corsair RAM
Palit GTX 680 4GB
OS on Samsung 830 256GB SSD
Corsair AX860 PSU
Thanks in advance
