Hey guys, having a slight problem. My previous Core 2 desktop died so I salvaged the HDD (SATA II) and the DVD Drive (SATA I?), and built a new desktop with a H97 Plus motherboard.

I've connected it back using the old SATA cables to SATA 3 & SATA 4 ports. However whenever I try to boot up using the HDD, it loads up the Windows logo then it stops and immediately brings me to the repair page. When I try to boot up using the DVD drive instead, it gives a black screen and shortly after that it loads up the BIOS. It doesn't even give me any message such as "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" or "No boot media detected". It just goes straight back to the BIOS each time and I'm not really sure what's going on.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Solution
it the newer windows 8 security features built into the motherboards. in the bios turn off secure boot. under boot make sure efi and legacy boot devices are set to on or auto if there set to efi only a lot of older cd roms wont boot windows dvd.
