Hey everybody,

Thought I'd build a new system since I'm unable to return to my old job because I broke my spine. I'm gonna have some time on my hands before I find work or go back to university, and I've got the budget to blow.

Current hardware I've got in mind:

CPU: Core i7 4970k

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 980's in dual SLI

Motherboard: Asus Maximus 7 Formula

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB GDDR3 (Dual Channel)

HDD: WD Red 2TB

SSD: Corsair Force Series LX 256GB

Case: CoolerMaster Cosmos SE

This gear alone totals about $2,800.

I've got a custom liquid cooling loop on the cards too, only CPU for now. As for everything else to finish off the build I'll buy later on.

Any advice on what I've got lined up?

Cheers,
Sean.

X99 is definitely exactly what you just listed. Max performance and future proof. 5820k beats the 4790k marginally and it will definitely exceed in the future as more games will use more cores in the future. (5820k and 5930k = 6 cores) Super made a perfect build for the x series platform

This is what I would do. Also, I didn't include cooling because you said you have a custom loop you would use.
