I have a Phenom II x4 965 BE and I'm looking to sind out if I should upgrade, and get some suggestions. I'm on a bit of a budget so I'm looking to keep it at or under $150. Are there any possibilities for me?

I primarily use the rig for gaming. I'm fairly certain my CPU is bottlenecking my system but not 100% sure. I have an aftermarket cooler that I've not installed yet that I'm sure will help some, but I don't know how much. I've also not explored overclocking because I'm not really sure how and not terribly comfortable experimenting. (how difficult is it to OC, btw? Should I do that first?)

Here's my system:

XFX 7870 HD
Samsung 840 SSD boot drive
WD Blue 1TB HDD
8G RAM
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 970 ATX MOBO

Thank you!

With a $150 budget, the best upgrade would be to the AMD FX-8320. Unfortunately, the ASUS CPU Support List page not functioning correctly, there is no way to know if a BIOS update is required (likely) for the new processor.

Is that something with OC potential?

Yes. Aside from that, I'm like you in that I wouldn't know the first step in overclocking.

Thanks. I'm doing a little research in OC but it's intimidating to me. What with the potential to ruin yor MOBO (and everything attached to it) and all... lol.
