Im building a gaming pc soon and i saw on some PSU pictures SATA and i hear about it all of the time. What is it exactly? How do i know how many SATA outputs i need on my PSU? What components use SATA?
It's just an interface to connect devices to the motherboard (for data) and PSU (for power).
Devices that typically use SATA are almost any hard drive and optical drive made within the last 5 years.
Obviously, you'll need as many SATA outputs on you PSU as you have devices. Just make sure to read the PSU's specifications and count up the number of SATA devices you have to make sure it matches up. Usually you'll have more than enough SATA connectors.
