Hey guys

So I have this problem that started a few weeks ago. I'll have my computer up and running just fine, no errors or signs that something's wrong when it randomly blacks out the screen. The computer continues running but the screen, mouse and keyboard are all unresponsive even when I press num lock. It only happened every now then at first, then it happened once while I was playing skyrim and the sound glitched and made a screeching kind of noise. Now it can't get past the login screen without blacking out and locking up. I've done a little bit of research and I think it might be something to do with the mother board as other people have tried unplugging and re-plugging in their video card without it working. Has anyone here seen anything like this before? Should I just take it to a shop? Here's my specs:

Intel Core i5 3570K Unlocked Quad Core Processor LGA1155 3.4GHZ Ivy Bridge 6MB Retail
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 OC 980MHZ 2GB 6.0GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Video Card
MSI Z77 Mpower ATX LGA1155 Z77 DDR3 3PCI-E16 4PCI-E1 SATA3 DVI HDMI VGA SLI USB3.0 Motherboard
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX750M 750W ATX Modular Power Supply Active PFC 120mm Fan
4 gigs of generic kingstom ram (can't remember or find the specific details of it)
A 2 TB western digital hard drive running windows 7 64-bit home

With my local repair shop, they take a brief look over it for free. They charge if there's anything they can do to fix it. Honestly, if I were in your situation, I usually take it to my local PC shop and let them take a look. They have all their diagnostics tools to find issues fairly quickly. Could be something as simple as a RAM error to a bad HDD. Or in more unfortunate cases, as you mentioned, it could be a failing motherboard.
