Hey guys I wanted to get a new motherboard to put in my desktop since mine is not quite up to par anymore. I had some questions as to what my options were

From what I could gather, my motherboard is an Asus MSO-P8H67-MPRO(B). It's an LGA 1155 and I believe the size is a micro ATX. It supports DDR3 1333 RAM. I was wondering I could get a newer motherboard better than the one I have currently. Are there mobos that support different sizes (ATX/micro ATX)? My current mobo has an intel H67 chipset so I was wondering if it's possible to get a new mobo with a different/better chipset.

The reason I want a new one is that the intergrated sound box is fried so I had to put in a sound card but it's so tight up against my gpu that it blocks the fan so it builds up a lot of heat (which is why I think it recently fried my speakers). Sorry for the long post, I'm new to the whole motherboard upgrade.

Solution

Yes the m means it is a micro ATX. So you have to get a micro ATX motherboard.

nothing over $150. I just want to know what motherboards I can fit in my case and if my pc will take motherboards with different specs as stated above. (Im running on windows 7 OS)

Alright. Motherboards don't support different sizes...they are different sizes. ATX is the largest with mini being the next step down, micro being next. Then there are ITX sizes that I am not familiar with that are smaller than micro ATX. It depends on what case you have. Most after market cases support multiple sizes. What case do you have?

ok I have an Asus Essentio CG8350 desktop. I looked on the website and it said that it's an mATX. Does the "m" mean anything or is my case just an ATX?

Yes the m means it is a micro ATX. So you have to get a micro ATX motherboard.
