Hey I purchased MSI's GTX 970 4GD5T OC and afterwards I found on MSI's website that the HDMI is version 1.4a. After reading Tom's Hardware's extensive review of both the 970 and 980, I thought the HDMI version would be 2.0. Indeed, the review includes cards from Gigabyte and EVGA that use 2.0. So I figured that'd be the standard MSI would use (incidentally, Zotac also uses 1.4a).

What might be the reason for this? Cost? I wasn't aware I'd have to research that particular spec :/

MSI Geno here,

That was a typo and we have already fixed it. It is Indeed HDMI 2.0, which we have updated on our website!

Cheers!

Do we need a BIOS update for the 2.0 spec?

No you do not, as the HDMI spec is 2.0 to begin with. We mistakenly wrote it was 1.4 as a typo on our website.
