I'm building my first pc and want to use it for both editing/rendering and gaming. I was looking at these parts and was looking for opinions on it please as I am still a newbie with this. The GPU is a set thing so I can't change that really, all other components are still flexible within the price range.

-Would this build be well balanced and compatible?
-Are there cheaper options with same result? (Except GPU)
-Would the listed liquid cooling be a big pro vs the listed air cooling?

Parts:
Case: phantom NZXT 530
Graphics Card: ASUS Radeon R9 280 DirectCU top II 3GB
CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k
CPU cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO -OR- Antec Kuhler H2O 650 version 2
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VII Ranger Intel Z97 LGA 1150 ATX
PSU: CORSAIR TX 650W
Ram: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer (2x4gb) DDR3
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 RPM
SSD: Kingmax SMP35 client 120GB

Thank you!

I know you said the GPU is a set thing, but it would be a much better choice to get a GTX 970 and change the CPU to a locked i5 for gaming.

I would also get a Samsung 840 EVO for the SSD.

Asides from that the build looks good. There are a few places where you could save some money. I can post a build if you're interested.

If you wanted to save some money, you probably don't need such an expensive motherboard, as an example, this one would probably be compareable in your application
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

and with an i7-4790k, unless you are going to overclock it, a hyper 212 evo would probably be enough, as the CPU is only rated to put out 88w, which isn't bad.

Would the GTX 970 be better because it's a better GPU compared to the Radeon R9 280 or does it work better with the CPU? Would it be a bad thing to keep the Radeon R9 280? Cause I heard it's a pretty good card?

And I was thinking the i7 because of intensive rendering I'll doo as well?

And thanks will look into that Samsung SSD!

Ok cool, thanks! Will look at that motheboard, should probably go cheaper yeah, but the ASUS Maximus VII Ranger just got my attention with it's looks haha but thanks for the advice, greatly appreciate it!

The GTX 970 offers performance past the R9 290x for only $330. It's the go-to card for 1k gaming rigs currently.

You could also look at the Xeon 1231 V3 with a cheaper motherboard instead of the i5. The Xeon is like a locked i7 wtihout the integrated graphics.
