Hello everyone I will be building a PC soon and I'm confused about the anti static wrist band. Where can I attach it to ground myself? Can i attach it to the case? Some people say that attaching it to the power supply is the best. What do you think?

Thanks for answering

I am an A+ certified tech. The first thing they teach in probably most every tech school is unplug the computer first.
This is for safety. The next thing you do is put on your wrist strap, grab the case to discharge any static electricity.
Then hook the strap while your hand is on the case. This gives you ( Potential Equalization). You can google it. You can ask an electrician to explain it to you. You do not need to be ground to the earth, House, Lamp, etc. etc. Just the case.
These are the facts. I hope that answers your question. You got to sift out the B.S. sometimes.

Here is what I know, you ground yourself to the case. This is what I was taught in tech school. And after a discussion
With my brother who is a certified electrician he concurs. Grounding yourself to the power supply provides no technical advantage what so ever.

What you should do is first install the psu in the case. Then plug in the psu to the power outlet, making sure the switch on the back of the psu is in the off position.

Then you wear your wrist band and connect it to the case(which is touching the outer shell of the psu).

This works because the outershell of the PSU is connected to ground, and since you plugged your psu in, you are connecting yourself to electrical ground of your house. If you don't plug the psu in, you will not be grounded.

That is the "proper" way to do it. however it is not really needed.

I misspoke. Plugging into the power supply is fine provided the rocker switch is off.
as was posted. You can use the case also. But for total safety it is best to to unplug the power supply. You want to be able to move that strip around if you need to.

Connect it to anything near the case that if you touch it after rubbing your feet on the ground in socks, will shock you. That's what you want to do, discharge static electricity, through the wristband, rather than the computer components.

Like searching for a really small beef patty in a really large burger bun. However I was dead serious. Don't attach the wristband to your pet sheep. Even if he assures you he is trying to help. Its a trick! Just tell him to go watch Letterman for an hour or so.
