Good for video editing?

Solution
That entirely depends on the stuff they plan on doing.

I'm currently "Video editing" on an i7-3537U Mobile CPU (WAY less powerful than the FX 6300) with 8 GB of RAM and a 5400 RPM laptop harddrive. Everything is smooth as butter producing 1080p 30 FPS video.

The caveat: I'm using proxy files and using an NLE (Non-Linear-Editor, used mainly for cutting and reordering clips). That means I'm essentially working with no renders (CPU, GPU, RAM dependent), and I'm editing with small files, and replacing with HQ files when I'm done.

It all depends on the program and the process that determines whether or not a computer will be "good for video editing."

Could you ask your friend what programs they use for video editing?
