It should work just fine. Sure there may be a small negligible loss of performance due to the PCIE 2.0 vs 3.0 slot...but someone had shown me an article saying that cards did not actually use 3.0 anyway...or at least some did not. Maybe the 900 series will use it better since it has all the new tech features.

The PSU should be fine. At 750 watts it is powerful enough to handle the 980, and it seems like it should have the correct PCIE power connections too.

Heres a tip, the 980 is powerful yes absolutely it is. But the thing is there are so many more options that will blow the 550ti away. I guess it depends on how far you want to upgrade. The i7 860 is old, there could be a bottleneck with the 980. Don't take my word for it because nobody has tested it yet. Now back the options, pick what you need, what your going to use it for, resolution for games etc. Don't get a 980 if youre going to play games on a vga monitor. There are tons of other cards for cheap prices out there that will give you all the performance you will need. Buy what you think is best, buy what you think will suit your needs.
