Wanted some info from people who have a good understanding of electronics, my 670 died on me over a month ago, and at the moment I am in the process of doing a warranty claim, but the damage was as if some components had just completely burned out. The area of damage was above where one sits the card on the PCIE, so what ever transistors/diodes/capacitors or whatever else was that is just ash. Its a small area of damage but I don't know if the burned area went right through the circuit board (its a Asus 670 and has the back plate). The actual area where one sits PCIE part into the slot is perfectly fine, well appears to be perfectly fine.

I don't have a great understanding of electronics, but one thing I know is that even if it could be fixed, the other components on the card would have to be thoroughly checked as whatever heat damage there was, the other components on the card would need to be checked if they also had been damage.

Would the damage I have described make the video card very difficult to repair? Would a person who has a better understanding of electronics in their opinion think this card most likely won't be able to be repaired?

I also like to mention that my tower case is a full tower case, and there is sufficient cooling, never once I have head any overheating issues. I always had my components running at safe temperatures.

I know its not my power supply as at the moment I am using a spare gtx 275 and that is running fine.

Generally warranty doesn't covers burnt or physical damage and outside repair of GPU is not possible i have 2 dead GPU lying in my room one is a little bit burnt and other have display problems.

I'm almost sure they will send you a refurbished card - I doubt yours can be repaired.

I too am thinking mine cannot be repaired. Thing is I am thinking there may of been some defective components on the card itself. When I saw the condition of the card in the area where the burnt marks are, my line of thinking is that whatever components that were on the circuit board, I am thinking some of the components used on my card may of been somewhat defective, possibly at time of manufacture. What if this was the case. Its not uncommon in this day and age with all the mass production of products that defective components can enter the manufacturing process.
