Hi there,

I recently updated my memory from 2GB to 8GB on my laptop HP 8710w and now it´s even slower. It´s on a Windows 7 64bit. The BIOS hasn´t been updated since I got it in 2007. Might this be the problem?

I believe so. Here´s a copy paste from the System Information:

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 8.00 GB
Available Physical Memory 4.25 GB
Total Virtual Memory 16.0 GB
Available Virtual Memory 11.4 GB
Page File Space 8.00 GB

Hello,

Try to limit the pagefile size to 2GB and also disable hibernation; for 8GB RAM, I'm pretty sure you have also a 18GB hibernation file on your HDD, which combined with the usually low performance of an laptop HDD makes your laptop to behave like a car running with the handbrake on.

It's probably with the mixed DRAM it's running at the laptops minimum for DRAM and with timings that don't really match up to both sticks...you might see if there is a BIOS update
