I am a newbie to computer building and changing parts but did see a lot of tutorials. I saw in those videos that when you get a new mobo many times they have a plastic cover on the cpu socket. When I got my new m5a99x mobo before putting in the fx 8350 cpu, I broke what was actually an important part of the socket that ur supposed to place the cpu on , I thought it was just a plastic cover. The plastic part of the socket broke and the metal hinge came off. Idk what to do now considering that it was not a defect and thus I can't get warranty for it. Is there any place I can buy that part or have someone repair it? It would suck that I would have to buy a whole new motherboard just because I broke that plastic part.

well, depending on exactly what/how broke, you may be able to mount the CPU and hsf anyway. could you provide a decent pic of the damage?

chances are quite high youll need a new mobo, but there -may- be a tiny sliver of hope that you could get by for a while.

There is removable plastic cover on that socket, but not for users ofcoz. Easy to fix (if you damaged only top cover).
It looks like that:

Try to make photo of your damaged area and post it here.
