Hey everyone!

I'm at my wit's end with this project and was really hoping someone could help me with this. I am trying to upgrade an old desktop I have for the simple purpose of making a better flight SIM out of it. I am enrolled in an instrument flying program, and MS Flight Sim 2004 has the exact plane I am flying for training. The only problem was that my screen size was annoying, so I bought a new widescreen monitor. When I hooked it up, using the board-mounted graphics chipset, it stretched everything to fit the screen, and the computer will not allow me to adjust the aspect ratio to 16:9. So, I was given the suggestion to get a better video card. I had a PCIe x1 port open, so I bought a Radeon HD 5450, and installed it, per the instructions. I installed the drivers (using the included disc) and attempted to hook up the monitor.

I thought I was good to go because when the computer goes to start up, the "Dell" logo appears on the new monitor, with the new video card but when the operating system starts up, it is still using the on-board chipset.

I also got an error message that said: "The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver or enable your ATI adapter using the device manager."

However, when I go into device manager, it says the driver is up-to-date, and that the device is working properly. I searched online, and tried some of the suggestions, like uninstalling the drivers completely, and re-installing them directly from the website. That did not solve the problem either.

I thought maybe the computer wasn't letting the Radeon card work because the on-board video chipset was still enabled but I'm kinda scared to disable the on-board chipset without knowing if the Radeon card is working right.

I'm running XP Media Center Edition, on a Dell Dimension E310, 2 GB RAM. (please let me know if you need additional tech specs).

All help greatly appreciated!!!

Disable the onboard. If the new card doesn't work, physically uninstall and reboot. The MB will detect there is no add-on card and switch back to on board graphics.
